Five Things You Should Know About Satan.

S. Coon

1.) Satan was a created being just like every creature in the universe.

He was made by God, most likely before the creation of the world (Genesis 1:1). Satan was originally called Lucifer or “Son of the Morning” (Isaiah 14:12). Lucifer was the most beautiful creature that God ever created. Lucifer was very skilled in music, and was a perfect angelic creature of God (Ezekiel 28:12-16), until he sinned and became Satan as we know him.  Lucifer was not the brother of Jesus as Mormon writings claim.

2.) Satan was cast out of Heaven because he rebelled against God.

Satan became proud because of his beauty and power (Ezekiel 28:17), and he decided he wanted to become like God (Isaiah 14:13-14). He was cast out of heaven along with a third of the angels who fell prey to his infectious rebellion (Revelation 12:7-9).

3.) Satan decided to corrupt God’s perfect creation.

He convinced Eve that she too could “be as God (gods in the A.V.)” by rebelling against God’s only command (Genesis 2:16-17), and Eve was able to talk her husband into doing the same (Genesis 3:1-6). This first sin plunged mankind into the same spiritual darkness in which Satan abides since his fall.

4.) Satan continues to fight against God.

By hindering the spread of God’s plan to restore mankind to himself, Satan continues his rebellion against God (I Thessalonians 2:18). Satan also works in the lives of humans, and blinds them to the truth through his own lie (Romans 2:25; Revelation 20:10).  Christians have overcome this evil one and do not need to be influenced by his power, (Romans 8:37-39).

5.) Satan will be destroyed by God.

Ultimately, in the final days, God will completely crush Satan and condemn him forever to the pit of Hell where he will be as helpless and contemptible as every other wretch sent there (Isaiah 14:15-16). Satan will remain in the lake of fire for eternity being tortured in the scorching flames (Revelation 20:10).
